singh’s roti shop.

if you travel down washington far enough, you will find singh’s. i had never really noticed it before, i ate there a couple days ago at a friends reccomendation. i walked in and the first thing i noticed was that it was very busy (a good sign), and hotter inside than it was outside (a bad sign). the decor is strangely pieced together, with shoved together tables, a giant chandelier, and a full liquor bar that is trying too hard to be modern, with its neon green lights glaring out at you mid day. the menu is divided in two sections: chinese and west indian. i opted for the roast duck fried rice, as i find it hard for me to ignore duck on any menu. eventually i got my food and a paper plate, and headed outside to sit on the patio. to say i was not excited or impressed with my food is an understatement. it ended up being regular fried rice with duck on top. maybe i have eaten duck at too many fine dining establishments to know what i’m getting myself into when i order it anywhere else. but there were bones aplenty, it was difficult to even get a bite, and overall was bland and flavorless. suffice it to say, this place will not be making it onto my list of places to frequent. luckily, i was saved by good conversation and an adorable little 3 year old boy that kept talking to us. the owners of singh’s should probably take a trip over to shakera’s and find out what flavor is all about.
