shakera’s.
so, the adventurous side of us took over yesterday, as we headed out to silver star to try out shakera’s, a west indian/caribbean eatery that kaitlin has been wanting to experience. will and i both got the jerk chicken, rice, and beans. i also got a potato pie, which is basically a pastry filled with mashed potatoes. very tasty. everything was pretty dang spicy, we all had a little case of cleared sinuses after the meal. my chicken was good, and moist, very tender. i’m kind of a baby, and i don’t eat much spicy food, but it was still delicious. lori’s beef was a little dry on the top pieces, but if you snuck down and got the pieces soaking in the juices, they were tender and actually pretty good, just like stew meat.
it’s for sure an interesting part of town, one that needs a little more exploring. and if you’re into spicy food, that is definitely a good place to check out. prices are fair, and portions are large. i still have some leftovers in the fridge. there are even some vegetarian items on the menu, for those of you that don’t enjoy eating dead animals as much as i do.
